Democrats double standard, calling Republicans "Unpatriotic"

Democrats complain that Republicans are calling them "unpatriotic" even though Republicans are not calling them that. But Democrats explicitly call Republican "unpatriotic" and no one complains.

"In a jobs state of emergency, to actually have official Congress people who would not come to work last night shows contempt for the president, that is really unpatriotic for a congressman to do such an heinous act," Jesse Jackson told Redding News Review. . . .

Obama: adding $4 trillion in debt over four years was “unpatriotic” and also “irresponsible”

What a difference three years makes. Remarks by Obama in July 2008.

“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion dollars for the first 42 presidents -- number 43 added $4 trillion dollars by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion dollars of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic,” Obama said on July 3, 2008, at a campaign event in Fargo, N.D.

Of course, during the presidential debates, then-Senator Obama blamed the bad economy on the deficits.
Companies leaving the US -- "investment fleeing the country"

Companies leaving the US -- "investment fleeing the country"

Investor's Business Daily has this:

Energy: Another day, another oil company fleeing the country. No, this isn't Ecuador, the banana republic that just defaulted on its debt after chasing out investors. It's the United States, and what we're seeing is self-defense.

Much political hay has been made in Congress about "unpatriotic" corporations that move operations abroad. Weatherford International is the latest, taking its headquarters from Houston to Switzerland. The oil services company said that it wants to be closer to its markets. But what it really meant was that it no longer saw the future in the U.S.

In a political atmosphere of blaming corporations, it's no wonder. Halliburton fled to Dubai in 2007. Tyco International, Foster Wheeler and Transocean International all went to Switzerland. As a pattern emerges, America's global standing diminishes, in part because it's based on the willingness of companies to invest. It's an especially bad sign when domestic companies flee. . . .
Huge companies such as Exxon Mobil, whose market cap exceeds the GDP of most countries, create $100 billion in earnings in quarters when oil prices soar. It looks high, but over the years, the industry's average returns, at 9%, are less than other industries.

Nevertheless, Exxon's profits are evidence of its success at extracting oil from miles below the earth's surface, even underwater, and from unbelievably hostile environments, such as the Arctic. Instead of being objects of national pride for their productivity and efficiency, and subjects of heroic Hollywood movies, their success is considered to be dishonest.

Congressional hostility affects oil companies' operations abroad, too: Exxon, remember, noted that Congress' animus toward oil profits directly encouraged Hugo Chavez's uncompensated expropriations of $1 billion of Exxon's assets in Venezuela, which drove oil prices higher. . . . .
Was Pelosi trying to get the Republicans to vote against this bailout bill?

Was Pelosi trying to get the Republicans to vote against this bailout bill?

Apparently, most Republicans opposed the bailout in any case, but one wonders what Pelosi's motivation was to give this speech? The entire issue of Pelosi attacking the Republicans for not showing up for marking up the bill when they weren't even told where the meeting would take place is also bizarre. Calling the Republicans unpatriotic was bizarre. Despite the claims to the contrary, Republicans don't call Democrats unpatriotic. Yet, despite all the Democrats wailing about being called unpatriotic when they weren't called that here Pelosi explicitly calls Republicans unpatriotic for not showing up when they weren't even invited to the meeting.

When you listen to Pelosi's speech you really have to wonder what she was thinking. This was such a mean and partisan speech (not to mention just wrong) you almost have to believe that she did this speech to try to keep Republicans from voting for the bill.
