Latest numbers show very small additional 2% increase in violent crime in UK

Violent crime in England and Wales rose 2 percent in the past year as muggers preyed on the increasing number of people carrying electronic gadgets such as music players, British Home Secretary John Reid said. . . .

The increase in violent crime was shown in the number of incidents reported to police in April 2005 through March 2006, the Home Office, which is responsible for policing in the U.K., said in a statement. Robbery rose 8 percent in the period. . . .
