Progress on Bill to block reckless suits against gun makers

Warning: This is an extremely biased news story.

More than half of the Senate, including both Pennsylvania senators, support the bill.

Fifty-nine percent of House members have signed on as co-sponsors, including 14 of Pennsylvania's 19 congressmen (Curt Weldon, Bill Shuster, Todd Russell Platts, Tim Murphy, Jim Gerlach, Charles Dent, Phil English, Paul Kanjorski, Melissa Hart, Tim Holden, John Murtha, John Peterson, Joseph Pitts, Don Sherwood).

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said the bill simply reaffirms state law.

"If a manufacturer does something wrong, is negligent, or knowingly puts a gun in the hands of a criminal, or does something else that is wrongful, this statute does not protect them," Specter said. . . .
