The External Benefit from Hunting

It has been estimated that 18,000 deer-related accidents happened in Iowa last year, costing insurance companies $60 million.

So they increase fees?

Nonresident hunting license fees would increase in cost from $80 to $100. . . . . The legislation tacks on an additional $1 to deer hunting license fees to expand a program that gives donated deer meat to prisons and food pantries and creates a system for hunters to report the deer they've killed.

The legislation plans to increase the number of deer hunted, but with benefits such as this, it would seem to make more sense to subsidize hunters.
