Father protects handicapped son from criminal (WSOC TV)

Charlotte, NC April 11, 2005

Tony Roman says a man broke into his home at the Vista Villa Apartments near The Plaza late Saturday night. Roman told us he was in his bedroom when he saw a man pointing a gun at his handicapped son.

The man demanded cash, according to Roman. But Roman didn't have any. "Then, he put the gun to my head. I told him, 'I have $100.' I didn't have no $100, I just wanted to reach for my gun and defend my family," Roman told us.

Roman said he then shot the intruder several times. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Roman believes the man came in through the back porch.
